RiverPlainCo is an independent reference covering residential interior lighting in Canada. It focuses on three things: the fixture types found in Canadian homes, where those fixtures are placed, and the brightness levels that suit each room.
What this site covers
The material is organised around the way lighting actually gets planned — room by room and layer by layer. Articles describe ambient, task, accent, and decorative light; the common fixture families such as surface, pendant, recessed, and portable fixtures; and the brightness and colour-temperature choices that shape how a room feels.
How the content is sourced
Content draws on publicly available Canadian guidance, including the Natural Resources Canada Home Lighting Design Guide and ENERGY STAR product information. Where electrical safety is involved, the site points to the standards maintained by CSA Group and to provincial inspection bodies. Photographs are sourced from Wikimedia Commons under public domain or Creative Commons licences.
What this site is not
RiverPlainCo does not sell products or services and does not provide electrical installation advice. Electrical work in Canada must follow the Canadian Electrical Code and local permit and inspection requirements, and should be carried out by qualified people. The notes here are background reading, not a substitute for a licensed electrical contractor.
